Gentleness Class

Happy New Year!

Welcome to Gentleness class and the beginning of the SpringTerm!

My name is Miss Long and I am the Year 2 class teacher. Our teaching assistant is Ms Sewell.

Year 2 is an extremely important year, as the children finish their time in Key Stage 1 and we aim to support them with fun and challenging lessons so that they are ready to move into Key Stage 2.

Our  book for the first half of Spring is 'The Dark'  which is looking at emotional insight and poetic economy. The authors bring to light a universal and empowering story about conquering fear. They will join a brave boy on his journey to meet the dark and see why it will never bother him again.

All pupils are expected to read, or be read to, for at least 10 minutes every night and a comment written in their reading record book, along with your signature. Please ensure their reading book and reading record are in school everyday. Please support your child's reading by asking them questions about what they have read/you have read, as this will ensure their understanding of the text.

Homework is sent home on Fridays and should be returned on Tuesdays. This will vary between Literacy, Maths and Topic work. Each piece should take no longer than 30 minutues to complete and is an oppourtunity for your child to share their learning with you. Please make sure this book is looked after and their work is completed in line with the high expectations of the school.

Spellings and Times Tables

Spellings and timetables will be undertaken each week and children will be expected to learn these, as they will be tested weekly. Please work with your children at home to understand these words, their meanings and how they can be used in simple sentences. They will have their Spelling Test on a Monday morning and given new spellings for the week. They will have their Times Table test on a Friday morning.

PE is on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure that your child's PE kit (named) is in school everyday and that earrings are removed on scheduled PE days. Children must wear appropriate PE kit - white top with black or red bottoms with plimsoles or trainers for each lesson. This half term your child will be doing Ball Skills focusing on basic skills regarding hand-eye coordination, alongside a differing selection of games.

We look forward to working with you and your child this term and continuing in allowing your child to become a well-rounded individual.
