Peace Class

Welcome to Peace class and the beginning of the Summer Term!

My name is Mr. Parra and I am the class teacher in Year 3. Our teaching assistant is Mrs Dudley.

Year 3 is an important step in your child's development. As they enter Key Stage 2 they will become increasingly more independent learners and become more responsible members of the school community.

Learning

Most of our learning will be based on the book we will be reading: The Story Collector, The Lion and the Unicorn and Other Hairy Tales by Jane Ray.

Each morning we will be doing maths, literacy, grammar and guided reading. In the afternoons we will be learning a mixture of science, RE, computing, PE, PSCHE and a topic which includes Geography, History, music, art and DT. Take a look at the curriculum guide below to see what your child will be covering in each of these subjects this term.

Reading
Reading is an important part of your child’s development, as well as being hugely enjoyable. Our pupils are encouraged to read at home as much as possible. They will take responsibility for choosing books to take home and changing these when they are finished. It is essential that parents/tutors listen to their children read on a daily basis and then sign the reading record. This will help the teacher keep track of the children’s progress as well as help them improve their speed comprehension skills.

Homework will be given on Friday each week and will be expected back by Tuesday the following week. Spelling and Times Tables will also be given each week and children will be expected to learn these since they will be tested on them every Tuesday. I want to take this opportunity to encourage parents to support their children in their spelling and timetables learning, an activity that can be tedious but, that will make them thrive in their learning.

PE will be on Wednesday. Children must wear the proper PE kit for each lesson so please ensure your child has a PE kit in school. Children are not permitted to wear earrings for PE and must be able to remove these themselves. Please ensure that all clothing is labelled.

If you have any questions about anything to do with your child’s learning or time at school,  please let me know.

I look forward to an exciting term working with you and your child!
