Gentleness (Year 2) Class & Home Learning
Welcome to Gentleness class with Ms Hodson .
Our Teaching Assistants are Ms Sewell and Ms Bishop
Year 2 is an extremely important year, as the children finish their time in Key Stage 1 and we aim to support them with fun and challenging lessons to develop a passion for learning so that they are ready to move into Key Stage 2 .
In Summer 1 we will be looking at a story called The Last Wolf, which will provide rich opportunities to understand conservation and environmental issues. The children will be writing a newspaper report, a campaign poster, and persuasive letters to the local council. In Science we will continue to look at plants in addition to the seasons, climate and weather. In Art we will be building bird feeders and drawing still life and bark rubbings. In Maths we will be recapping place value, addition & subtraction and Money, in order for the children to gain a deeper understanding and mastering skills learnt in the Autumn term. The children have now been taught the 2x, 5x, 10x and we will continue to practice these along with 3x table, so these are learnt off-by-heart.
All pupils are expected to read, or be read to, for at least 10 minutes every night and a comment written in their reading record book, along with your signature. Please ensure their reading book and reading record are in school everyday. We will change books every Tuesday and Friday.
Please support your child's reading by asking them questions about what they have read/you have read, as this will ensure their understanding of the text.
Homework is sent home on Fridays you will find the homework on Google classroom and should be returned by Wednesday.
Each piece is an opportunity for your child to share their learning with you. Please make sure their work is completed in line with the high expectations of the school.
Spellings and Times Tables
Spellings will be undertaken each week and children will be expected to learn these, as they will be tested weekly.
They will have their times table test every other week on Friday's.
To support your children's times table learning, attached to the front cover of their reading record is their personal login details for times table rock stars, a wonderful resource to help your child learn their times tables.
PE is on a Wednesday. Please ensure that your child arrives to school wearing their PE kit and that earrings are removed.
Children must wear appropriate PE kit - white top with black shorts or tracksuit bottoms with plimsolls or trainers and school jumper for each lesson. This half term your child will be looking at ball control, throwing and catching skills.
Jumpers and book bags
Please can you ensure that your child's name is written on their school jumper, to ensure we are able to return lost and found jumpers to the correct child. In addition your child is required to bring their book bag everyday.
We look forward to continuing working with you and your child this term.
