Gentleness (Year 2) Class & Home Learning

Welcome to Gentleness class with Miss Long.

Our wonderful Teaching Assistant is Ms Sewell.

During this unique time, please click onto the 'home schooling' tab (above) to access work for your child which will be updated weekly. There will be a variety of reading, writing, maths and topic work.

One of the most important things you can do is to read with your child for 10-15 minutes everyday, or at any and every opportunity. It is essential for your child to understand what they are reading, so make it fun, ask them questions on what they have read or make sensible predictions on what could happen next.

The links below are to support you at home:  for all subjects with a parent section to support you.

Thanks for your continued support at this time.

Miss Long

Year 2 is an extremely important year, as the children finish their time in Key Stage 1 and we aim to support them with fun and challenging lessons so that they are ready to move into Key Stage 2 .

In Spring 1 we will be reading 'Anna Hibiscus' which will allow the children to discuss and imagine being another person by creating diaries and letters. In Science we are looking into Plants. We will be researching different plants and what they need to survive. Additionally we will plant and observe our own in class.  In Maths we will be focusing on multiplying and diving and then moving onto problem solving in order for the children to gain a deeper understanding of the individual skills learnt. The children have now been taught the 2x, 5x, 10x and 3x table, so we will continue so these are learnt off-by-heart.

All pupils are expected to read, or be read to, for at least 10 minutes every night and a  comment written in their reading record book, along with your signature. Please ensure their reading book and reading record are in school everyday. Please support your child's reading by asking them questions about what they have read/you have read, as this will ensure their understanding of the text.

Homework is sent home on Fridays and should be returned by Tuesdays. This will vary between Literacy, Maths and Topic work. Each piece should take no longer than 30 minutues to complete and is an oppourtunity for your child to share their learning with you. Please make sure this book is looked after and their work is completed in line with the high expectations of the school.

Spellings and Times Tables

Spellings and timetables will be undertaken each week and children will be expected to learn these, as they will be tested weekly. Please work with your children at home to understand these words, their meanings and how they can be used in simple sentences. They will have their spelling test on a Friday and given new spellings for the week ahead. They will have their times table test every other week on a Friday morning.

PE is on a Thursday afternoon. Please ensure that your child's PE kit (named) is in school everyday and that earrings are removed on scheduled PE days. Children must wear appropriate PE kit - white top with black or red bottoms with plimsoles or trainers for each lesson. This half term your child will be doing Gymnastics focusing on the movement of the body, coordination and balance.

We look forward to working with you and your child this term and continuing in allowing your child to flourish and become a well-rounded individual.
